Meet Dr. Mike Mccoy

Dr. Mike McCoy (“Dr. Mike”) grew up in Massachusetts and attended the University of Maine at Orono. He went to Dental School at the University of Connecticut, then earned his specialty Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from the University of Kentucky at Lexington. Since his undergraduate days, Maine stayed on his mind. He and his wife moved back to Maine in 2001 when he joined Just For Kids.

As a dental student, Dr. Mike knew he wanted to work with children since his early days in the clinic. From the very beginning, while other students were nervous treating children, Dr. Mike found it to be a lot of fun. His favorite part of being a Pediatric Dentist is talking anxious kids through treatment and creating a positive experience.

“I always get a charge out of talking scared kids through treatment,” says Dr. Mike. “That’s how I knew I needed to be a Pediatric Dentist.” Dr. Mike also loves the variety of his job: operating room treatment, sedation dentistry, minor oral surgery, laser dentistry, and orthodontics, for example.

Dr. McCoy is a Board Certified Pediatric Dentist. For a number of years now, Dr. McCoy has travelled to Guatemala to provide dental services to those most in need. He is also an active member of the Maine Medical Center Cleft Team.

Dr. Mike lives on a small farm with his wife Maureen, their two children, Catherine and Quinn, four horses (Little Man, Tonka, Riley, and Jude), three goats (Nicholas, Mary, and Ester), five chickens, and a black lab (Archie). In his free time Dr. McCoy loves to fly fish for trout, salmon, and striped bass.
